One stage, two councils: what Everest and One For All promised

On Tuesday 6 October the school sat down together for the assembly this election has been building towards. Two councils stood at the same podium, one after the other, and told the students what they would do with a year in office.

Before either of them spoke, there was a goodbye. Seven for Change, the council that is finishing its term, made its last appearance in front of the school.

EVEREST

Everest introduced itself as “11 people, 11 personalities, 1 team”, and calls its members the climbers. Each has a job of their own: marketing, internal affairs, student voice, events and festivals, sports.

Its main promise fits on one slide: at least one major student event every month. Under it, in smaller letters: “No empty promises will ever be given out.”

Then came Kvara’s Treasure Hunt, a school-wide hunt in which money is hidden around the building. The mission, as the slide put it, is to find it before everyone else does, and the more you find, the bigger your chance of winning.

ONE FOR ALL

One For All answered with “8 students, one team”, led by Ioseb Khakhiashvili as president and Mariam Sandroiani as vice president.

Its biggest plan is One Week For All: five days in which the whole school takes part. Monday is Color Clash, when each grade gets one colour and the best section wins points. Tuesday is Jersey Day, Wednesday is Twin/Trio, Thursday is Throwback, and Friday is the finale. Around the week run a golden star hunt, a points board for the grades and a photo and video wall.

The council also promised two celebrations, a Fall Fest and a Winter Party, and a way of deciding what comes after election day: Instagram polls in which students choose what happens next, with the result left for everyone to see. Their line for it: “You vote. We build it.”

WHAT HAPPENS NOW

Both councils have now said what they stand for in front of everyone who will vote. Next, as promised, BGA News publishes its pre-election statistics. Then the school decides.
