BGA Football in Barcelona: Three teams on the international stage

U18 Boys: Plate Bronze After a Strong Finish

BGA’s U18 Boys finished third in Group B after recording three wins and two losses from five group matches.

The team collected 9 points, scoring three goals and conceding four. Among their results were 1–0 victories against Radnor House Sevenoaks and Socrates Educa International School 2, as well as a narrow 0–1 defeat to Brooke House College.

Finishing third in the group moved BGA into the Plate competition.

In the Plate semifinal, BGA faced Lycée Voltaire LFQV and lost 2–1. They then responded strongly in the third-place match, defeating Beths Grammar 1–0 to secure the bronze medal in the Plate.

Across the whole tournament, the U18 Boys played seven matches, won four and lost three, scoring five goals and conceding six.

The BGA U13 Boys also had a strong tournament.

They finished third in Group C with three wins and two losses from five matches, collecting 9 points. BGA scored 12 goals and conceded 11 during the group stage, giving them a +1 goal difference.

Their group games were much more attacking than those of the U18 Boys, with 23 goals scored across BGA’s five matches in total.

After the group stage, BGA moved into the Plate competition. They narrowly lost 1–0 to The Newcastle School in the Plate quarterfinal before continuing into the placement matches.

BGA then defeated British International School Tbilisi 2–1 and finished their Plate campaign with a 3–1 victory against Socrates Educa International School.

U16 Girls: BGA and BIST Join Forces

BGA students were also represented in the U16 Girls competition through a combined team with British International School Tbilisi.

The official tournament app lists the team under BIST, but the squad included players from both schools.

The girls faced a difficult Group A. They finished the group stage with five losses from five matches, scoring two goals and conceding 21.

Importantly, those five matches were not their entire tournament. After the group stage, the team continued into the Bowl competition, where they played further placement matches.

Although the group-stage results were challenging, the tournament gave the combined squad experience against international opposition and the opportunity to compete together on an international stage.

Three Teams, Three Different Tournament Stories

Each BGA team had a different experience in Barcelona.

The U18 Boys built their tournament around close matches and strong defending, eventually earning bronze in the Plate. The U13 Boys were much more attacking, scoring 12 goals in the group stage before finishing fifth in the Plate. The combined BGA–BIST U16 Girls team faced a difficult group but continued competing in the Bowl stage and gained valuable international experience.

Together, the teams represented their schools and Georgia at one of the largest international school football events of the year.
